Besides the range of various herbs, (which I use for various teas and tinctures), one of the things I keep on hand, especially in winter season is Fire Cider.
The recipe I use is below, which I acknowledge and give full credit to Brianna Cherniak, Naturopath.
As with anything to do with your health and wellbeing, always consult a holistic practitioner in order to identify and treat the cause of any illness you may have. The human body is a marvellous complex and highly organised structure made up of unique cells that work together to accomplish specific functions that are necessary to sustain life. And, of course it’s marvellous – look at who created us – God himself! When we provide the right environment for our bodies, our bodies can heal and restore as God created it to do!!
Here’s the Fire Cider recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/4 Onion (chopped)
- 4 cloves Garlic (halved)
- 3 tbsp freshly grated Ginger and Turmeric (note, I didn’t have fresh Turmeric so used powder)
- A few stars of Anise and Bay Leaf
- Cayenne Pepper (this gives a kick, so I used 1 tsp)
- Raw Honey
- Apple Cider Vinegar
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
- Glass Jar (with a tight-fitting lid)
- Wax Paper (or Baking Paper)
- Wooden Spoon
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add all of the ingredients in your jar.
- Cover ingredients with Apple Cider Vinegar, leaving about 1/4 empty.
- Add Raw Honey until jar is full.
- Using spoon, mix thoroughly.
- Line the of your jar with Wax Paper (Baking Paper) and secure lid.
- Label and date.
- Store in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks. Shake jar daily to ensure thorough extraction.
Your Fire Cider should be ready to use after 4 weeks. The original recipe advises that you don’t need to strain unless you prefer. (I prefer because it makes it easier for my family to take).
Recommended dosing for oxymels (which is what Fire Cider is): is 1-2 teaspoons, 2 – 3 times daily.
Here’s to your restored health and wellbeing!
